Use it
Example
An LSOA showing 29% had about 29 in every 100 households renting from a council or housing association on Census day, 21 March 2021.
How we calculate it
- Census 2021 asked every household how it occupies its home.
- Social renters ÷ all households in the LSOA = the share shown.
- No colour on this layer means good or bad: it only describes the mix of homes.
The fine print
The Census is a snapshot of March 2021; tenure can change as estates are rebuilt or homes are sold.

- Tenure is an area composition measure, not a quality judgement.
