Use it
Example
The Compared with London card might say 4 primary and 2 secondary schools within 1 km. The Schools tab then lists each one nearest first, for example a secondary 0.8 km away with its Ofsted grades and its 2024/25 GCSE results.
How we calculate it
- Schools come from the Ofsted register of state-funded schools.
- Each shows its Ofsted report-card grades (from November 2025) or, if it has none yet, its last overall judgement, labelled as a different scale.
- Primaries show Department for Education key stage 2 results for 2024/25: the share of pupils reaching the expected standard in reading, writing and maths, and the share reaching the higher standard. Progress scores are not published for 2024/25.
- Secondaries show Department for Education key stage 4 results for 2024/25: Attainment 8 and the share of pupils with grade 5 or above in English and maths. Progress 8 (how much pupils improve on their primary results; 0 is the national average) is not published for 2024/25, so schools show 2023/24, the latest year with it.
- The Schools tab lists up to 30 schools within 1.5 km; the Compared with London count uses 1 km.
The fine print
- Distance is not a catchment and implies no chance of a place. Check each school's admissions.
- School admissions evidence is factual historical context, never a probability or guarantee.
- Report-card grades and legacy overall judgements are different scales and are never combined.
- Schools are placed at their postcode centre.
- The 2024/25 key stage 4 results are provisional; Progress 8 is not published for 2024/25.
